INTERVIEW | Yue Zhuo

Joy Yue Zhuo is a Shanghai-based object designer. She designs furniture and objects to express her utopian fantasy to the audience. She hopes users can imagine the fantasy through the interaction with her furniture and objects. While people are interacting or observing her works, they will become part of the fantasy. Joy Zhuo’s works are the NPCs (nonplayer characters) of a game she created herself called Utopian Fantasy.

Rebecca Weisman is a conceptually driven maker and thinker who makes deconstructed films of sculptures that are then re-embedded into the sculptures creating dreamy installations with layers upon layers of visual narrative and meaning. Her project Skin Ego centers on an immense, eight by twenty foot sculptural reconstruction of a section of a Finback whale, modeled after a photograph found on the internet of a real-life stranded whale.

Olga Nikitina “When I am underwater, I feel the ocean energy and unity with nature, the silence around. Only I can hear my breathing and sometimes fish rambling. It is easy to enter a trance state when painting underwater. Rays from the sun penetrating through the water are magical - you can see and feel that this is the point where two different worlds intersect and mix – and this is a favorite subject to reflect in my paintings.”
