Al-Tiba9 in ARTSLIBRIS ARCOmadrid 2021 International fair of contemporary art and Artist's books.
Al-Tiba9 Contemporary Art is pleased to announce its participation in the international fair ArtsLibris in ARCOmadrid 2021 Spain’s international contemporary art fair which, since 1982, has been one of the main art market platforms and an essential piece in the international circuit dedicated to the promotion and diffusion of artistic creation.
ArtsLibris at ARCOmadrid 2021 presents in this sixth edition forty-two exhibitors and a cultural program, led by the cycle of conferences coordinated and moderated by Andrea Soto Calderón, Ph.D. in philosophy, at the ARCO Professional Forum.
In this way, ArtsLibris becomes a nexus that aims to dialogue around contemporary publishing and artists' publications, understood in a broad sense and not only in editorial terms. It is a space in which to reflect and share practices related to the place that artists' publications occupy in shaping a sensitivity in artistic production, the context in which they are inscribed, and think about their future directions.
In addition, as in the previous edition, it maintains the Speakers' Corner space for talks and presentations, a meeting place between the public attending the fair and the exhibitors, offering the ideal environment for reflection and dialogue that complements the bibliographic offer of the stands. Mohamed Benhadj, Al-Tiba9 Founder and curator will conduct an art talk about Al-Tiba9 publications and his curatorial selection in the field of visuals arts.

ArtsLibris, International Artist's Book Fair and Contemporary Edition will participate for the fifth year in ARCOmadrid to disseminate the contemporary edition of artist's books.
ArtsLibris is a meeting place and a platform that aims to ensure that exhibitors are present on the international circuit, expand the publishing market, and share areas of interest with related sectors. In 2020, for the first time, several presentations will be organized at the ARCOmadrid Forum that will allow us to learn more about the future directions of art publishing.

The exhibition brings together a series of works by the Morrocan artist mounir fatmi which explore the foundations of history and social nature, expressed through the written word and by different kinds of language: religious, political, ideological and artistic. On display are a total of 20 projects undertaken from 2002 to today composed of hundreds of pieces from a variety of disciplines such as drawing, photograph, sculpture and video. The discourse of The Day of the Awakening focuses however on two main projects: The Index and the machine and Out of History.
The Day of the Awakening is inspired by the title of an in-stallation by mounir fatmi, who participated first hand in the creation of this exhibition. Its epigraph, simple and enigmatic, acts as a metaphor for an artistic work that con-structs visual spaces and linguistic games. In this way, his work offers a view of the world from a different perspective, avoiding the blindness provided by conventions.

“There is something analogous to this scientific and fictional proliferation in fatmi’s work, in this use of different supports, in his back and forth movements between different themes, his outlined, reprised or abandoned narratives. In a way, we could say that he appropriates the enigmatic discovery of a form of energy that seems inexhaustible but also uncontrollable - except that in his case the subject is a metaphorical equivalent of the nuclear, namely, desire and the irresistible attraction that it triggers. But then is the difference really so great? What matters, indeed, in both instances, is the moment, between the before and the after - imminence, you might say, that is to say, a time-space without real consistency, without real duration. What comes next is a form of unfolding, with its options and possible narrative trajectories. Before the reaction is triggered, before the lips touch and nothing is the same as before. Such is the kiss in the works of the “Casablanca Circles” series. It is a catastrophe, a rupture, the almost unassignable moment whereby everything changes. The beauty of the thing is that around this impalpable non-moment so many expectations and narrative possibilities are precipitated. “The first major solo presentation by mounir fatmi in Scandinavia comes at a very particular time.
