Distinct String Art | COVER ARTIST

Andrey Saharov is a mathematician by education, from Moscow, Russia. Self-made as an entrepreneur after graduating with a Ph.D., he was always fascinated by fractals and other patterns occurring in dynamical systems. These turned out to be directly related to classical string art, where beautiful symmetric patterns get weaved inside symmetric figures, like circles, using math formulae. Since 2016 this brought him to make Distinct String Art, a new way of obtaining complex photographically precise string art knits without nails inside the workspace. By now, Andrey has vastly improved the initial algorithmic technique and created his own style, which is reflected both in the deeply symbolic choice of subjects for his works and the filigree and the amazing accuracy of the art pieces he makes. @distinct.string.art

EVGENIIA KAZAREZOVA. | INNER COVER

Evgeniia Kazarezova is a ceramic designer. She started her professional career as an architect and later as an interior designer. Nowadays, she continues to work with space by placing her objects in it. She primarily works with clay as with one of the ancient and natural material human worked with. The perception of how the material got through the thousands of years in different cultures all around the globe gives her a dose of verve. Using traditional craftsmanship methods, she goes for contemporary design objects that reflect her vision and feeling of the modern world’s actualities. www.zheni.studio

ZHOU SONG. | BACK COVER

Zhou Song (b. 1982, Jiangxi, China) graduated from Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in China and received the first-place award in the annual fine arts thesis exhibition and third place in the nation-wide undergraduate and graduate art competition. He first gained recognition with his series of hyper-realistic oil paintings. In 2009, Zhou mounted a solo exhibition at Today Art Museum in Beijing.

His recent work explores the shifting political and social landscapes of urbanized societies developed according to principles of technological advancement. Whether to imagine a dystopian, post-apocalyptic future governed by war machines, or the more pervasive, yet no less violent, limitations placed on the individual expression of professionalized urbanites, Zhou’s latest series probes human realities shaped by technology as much as by nature. www.zhousongstudio.com
