ChingKe Lin | Sculpture, Installation

ChingKe Lin (b. 1982, Taiwan) is a contemporary bamboo artist whose practice explores the intersections of nature, spirituality, and material culture. Drawing from the structural intelligence of traditional Taiwanese bamboo craftsmanship, he examines how materiality carries time, belief, and memory, while reflecting on the shifting relationship between humans and their environment in contemporary life. Through large-scale sculptural and spatial installations, Lin transforms utilitarian craft languages into perceptual and contemplative environments, challenging the static nature of form and conventional modes of viewing.

His ongoing series Clouds of Smoke reinterprets the structural precision of traditional bamboo weaving through ephemeral spatial phenomena. Rooted in the circular weaving technique commonly used in lantern-making, the works interlace hundreds of bamboo strips at exact, repeated angles to form spiraling and star-like geometries. These forms evoke the organic rhythms of smoke and breath, evolving from an investigation of material logic into a meditation on impermanence, transformation, and becoming. Suspended in space, the installations drift and twist, balancing architectural rigor with poetic ambiguity, and oscillating between rational order and sensory experience.

Lin’s work has been exhibited internationally, including Art on Paper Fair (New York, 2024), Fremin Gallery, and Island Sunrise–TAAC on Governor’s Island, New York. In 2025, he presented a solo exhibition at Taipei 101. He is a three-time recipient of the MUSE Design Award, recognized for both conceptual depth and material innovation.
