Al-Tiba9 Contemporary is pleased to announce its participation in the international publishing fair ArtsLibris 2025 in MACBA Barcelona. Since 2009, ArtsLibris has been one of the main art market platforms and an essential piece in the international circuit dedicated to the promotion and diffusion of artistic creation.

The 16th edition of ArtsLibris Barcelona, the International Fair of Artists' Books, Photobooks, and Self-Publishing, will take place on October 10, 11, and 12 at MACBA, Convent dels Àngels.

Dialogue, experimentation, and innovation are the hallmarks of ArtsLibris, a project that holds a special place at MACBA Barcelona. It is both a celebration of these publications as an artistic medium and a platform for seminars, debates, performances, and interdisciplinary collaborations.

The Missing Show - mounir fatmi

In September 2017, mounir fatmi opened an exhibition in New York at the Jane Lombard Gallery. Through the reading of two texts, a personal letter addressed to his gallerist, and a set of poems, the artist explained his decision not to travel to the United States, instead, learning about how his exhibition was seen and received through social media and the perspective of strangers.These comments left at the gallery as well as online, were transposed into poems via the cut-up process, by the artist and a machine, producing a form of digital poetry.The Missing Show envisions language in the post-internet age in its transitive potential of individualism and individuation. Experiencing reality in all its discontinuity, mounir fatmi raises language to the level of a form of resistance.

In the spring of 2018, Freemuse – an independent organization working with defending the rights and freedom of artistic expression - published its first global report assessing the global state of artistic freedom. It is an important and chilling document about censorship and violations of artistic expression experienced across the globe, including the traditionally democratic western countries. Having himself experienced the consequences of a culture of silencing, mounir fatmi is an artist dedicated to exposing and deconstructing oppressive ideological and religious dogmas in works that shed light some of our most pressing political questions today. Seeking to illuminate the role of artists in a time of crisis, the exhibition at Göteborgs Konsthall particularly addresses the urgency of free speech and seeks to open up the political potential of language as resistance. The Day Of The Awakening - mounir fatmi

The exhibition brings together a series of works by the Morrocan artist mounir fatmi which explore the foundations of history and social nature, expressed through the written word and by different kinds of language: religious, political, ideological and artistic. On display are a total of 20 projects undertaken from 2002 to today composed of hundreds of pieces from a variety of disciplines such as drawing, photograph, sculpture and video. The discourse of The Day of the Awakening focuses however on two main projects: The Index and the machine and Out of History.

The Day of the Awakening is inspired by the title of an in-stallation by mounir fatmi, who participated first hand in the creation of this exhibition. Its epigraph, simple and enigmatic, acts as a metaphor for an artistic work that con-structs visual spaces and linguistic games. In this way, his work offers a view of the world from a different perspective, avoiding the blindness provided by conventions.
