Al-Tiba9 Contemporary at ARTSLIBRIS ARCOmadrid 2026, 4-8 March.

Al-Tiba9 Contemporary is pleased to announce its participation in the international fair ArtsLibris in ARCOmadrid 2026.

In this edition of ARCOmadrid 2026, it brings together more than 90 publishers, bookshops, and cultural agents from over 20 countries, making it the only international-scale fair on the Iberian Peninsula focused on this genre of publications within the Mediterranean and Ibero-American context.

In collaboration with ARCO, ArtsLibris has developed a format that facilitates access to collecting for younger generations. Through its commitment to critical thinking, experimentation, and innovation, it also defines itself as a space for cultural activation through seminars, professional meetings, and interdisciplinary projects.

Since its inception, more than 350 publishers have participated in the project, which is supported by various public institutions and, since 2025, by a special collaboration with Fujifilm Spain.

Since 2020, ArtsLibris has maintained a permanent presence through a physical and digital bookshop in Barcelona.

ArtsLibris is the Spanish international fair dedicated to the artist’s book, the photobook, and self-publishing, which has become a leading reference in Southern Europe, where it has helped these publications come of age.
The project originated in Barcelona (2009), where for the third consecutive year it will be hosted at MACBA. In addition to ARCOmadrid, ArtsLibris is also a section of ARCOlisboa and, since 2025, has presented its project at the FIL (Guadalajara International Book Fair, Mexico), the largest publishing gathering in the Spanish-speaking world, where its proposal is unique and pioneering in the field of artist publications.

The Missing Show - mounir fatmi

In September 2017, mounir fatmi opened an exhibition in New York at the Jane Lombard Gallery. Through the reading of two texts, a personal letter addressed to his gallerist, and a set of poems, the artist explained his decision not to travel to the United States, instead, learning about how his exhibition was seen and received through social media and the perspective of strangers.These comments left at the gallery as well as online, were transposed into poems via the cut-up process, by the artist and a machine, producing a form of digital poetry.The Missing Show envisions language in the post-internet age in its transitive potential of individualism and individuation. Experiencing reality in all its discontinuity, mounir fatmi raises language to the level of a form of resistance.

“The first major solo presentation by mounir fatmi in Scandinavia comes at a very particular time. In the spring of 2018, Freemuse – an independent organization working with defending the rights and freedom of artistic expression - published its first global report assessing the global state of artistic freedom. It is an important and chilling document about censorship and violations of artistic expression experienced across the globe, including the traditionally democratic western countries. Having himself experienced the consequences of a culture of silencing, mounir fatmi is an artist dedicated to exposing and deconstructing oppressive ideological and religious dogmas in works that shed light some of our most pressing political questions today. Seeking to illuminate the role of artists in a time of crisis, the exhibition at Göteborgs Konsthall particularly addresses the urgency of free speech and seeks to open up the political potential of language as resistance. The Day Of The Awakening - mounir fatmi

The exhibition brings together a series of works by the Morrocan artist mounir fatmi which explore the foundations of history and social nature, expressed through the written word and by different kinds of language: religious, political, ideological and artistic. On display are a total of 20 projects undertaken from 2002 to today composed of hundreds of pieces from a variety of disciplines such as drawing, photograph, sculpture and video. The discourse of The Day of the Awakening focuses however on two main projects: The Index and the machine and Out of History.

The Day of the Awakening is inspired by the title of an in-stallation by mounir fatmi, who participated first hand in the creation of this exhibition. Its epigraph, simple and enigmatic, acts as a metaphor for an artistic work that con-structs visual spaces and linguistic games. In this way, his work offers a view of the world from a different perspective, avoiding the blindness provided by conventions.
