Al-Tiba9 Gallery at ARTESANTANDER presents the works of the artists Rabee Baghshani and Santiago Paredes, whose explorations of culture, identity, and history bring together visual languages that transcend borders, offering perspectives on the intersection between tradition and modernity.
Rabee Baghshani is a digital artist from Mashhad, Iran (she has never left the country), who explores the intersection of cultural heritage, gender, and identity. Through digital collages, she combines the rich history of Persian art with Western pop culture, often juxtaposing Qajari figures in modern contexts to comment on the fluidity of tradition and the evolving nature of cultural identity. As one of the few female digital artists in Iran, Baghshani’s work also addresses themes of women’s empowerment and freedom, challenging societal norms and gender restrictions.
Her recent series, VOGUE, focuses on amplifying the voices of women, particularly within Iranian society, highlighting their resilience and strength in the face of oppression. Through her art, Baghshani initiates a dialogue around the complexities of identity, the power of self-expression, and the ongoing struggle for gender equality.
In contrast, Santiago Paredes, based in Buenos Aires, blurs the boundaries between art, design, and fashion in his digital creations. His work is influenced by Persian miniatures and Japanese prints, resulting in compositions that reimagine the everyday. Through experimentation with materiality and composition, Paredes creates multilayered scenes that explore the tensions between similarity and liminality, inviting viewers into a world where meaning shifts and evolves, encouraging new perspectives to emerge.
