U-Tong Aoieong | Sculpture

U-Tong Aoieong's primary focus lies in the realm of objects, with a particular curiosity directed towards their shapes and formations. She holds the belief that the formation of these shapes is grounded in reasons, such as human desires, material characteristics, biological dimensions, and unconscious decisions, and these aspects can be perceived through the observation of the shape itself.

In her artistic exploration, U-Tong integrates movement with objects. She regards movement as a more precise and authentic form of expression compared to verbal communication. She thinks that actions unfolding in the present moment embody a certain truth, and she sees the objective observation of these events as providing a direct and genuine experience for the audience.

Born in Macau and currently residing in New York City, U-Tong initiated her creative journey when studying architecture in Taiwan. It was during this period that she began incorporating movement into space and objects. Subsequently, she pursued sculpture studies in New York City, delving deeper into the investigation of objects in her artistic practice.
