Tereza Jobová | Photography

Czech photographer working primarily with staged photography, alongside painting, collage, and poetry. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Visual Communication at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, where her research focuses on Contemporary Spiritual Art as a Response to the World’s Crisis. Drawing on surrealism, horror, and ritualized image-making, her work approaches decadence as both an aesthetic strategy and a critical condition of late modernity.

These concerns materialize in the photographic series UNDERCURRENTS, which explores the persistence of irrational, wild, and unconscious forces within a rationalized late-capitalist society. Through visual metaphors of magical fetishes, ritual practices, and figures of the corporate shaman, the series articulates tensions between control and chaos, consciousness and the unconscious. Informed by Julia Kristeva’s theory of abjection and resonating with Antonin Artaud’s concept of ritual and cruelty, UNDERCURRENTS reveals repressed elements that inevitably return to disrupt symbolic order, framing the unconscious as an active force that destabilizes the illusion of control.
