Teo San José | Sculpture

Teo San José was born in Valladolid, Spain, in 1958. He studied engineering at the universities of Valladolid and Madrid. He has been a professional sculptor since 1987, specialising in monumental sculpture.

His work can be found in public and private collections around the world. His sculptural work arises from a desire to create spaces for dialogue. His public and private works have the clear intention of intervening in people's everyday lives.

The use of steel as a material lends weight and solidity to the artwork. Meanwhile, the curved and stylised forms create a sense of lightness. Tension, as a dynamic balance between concepts, appears in all aspects. A language far removed from representation that seeks a synthesis of meanings. Matter and emptiness not only shape space, but also penetrate it to create new places. The material becomes immaterial, and the opaque can become transparent, giving rise to new interpretations that are always in motion. The current series, In My Own Skin, deals with spaces that only exist through movement. For example, those generated by the wind passing between the sails of sailing ships as they navigate. The shapes and lines of the sculptures always seek to create and generate emotions of calm and serenity. This is the commitment to society... to the world.
