Nico Hemmer (The Netherlands, Hezingen 1964) was educated in electronic music at the Institute of Sonology at the Royal Conservatory The Hague. He is self-taught in audiovisual art after joining video workshops with Babeth Vanloo at the Free Academy, The Hague.
For years, he has been active as a musician, classical singer, and composer in addition to his working life.
Recently, Nico founded Luminescent Productions, which releases his work as a video artist, composer, and singer-songwriter (under the name Transverse). As a video artist, he participates in the artists' collective "Drijvend Staal."
2024's projects will include two more videos in the Waves cycle, a new cycle of videos on the theme power, an EP by Transverse with 6 new songs, and an overture and aria for an opera on the life and work of Ayn Rand.
Nico Hemmer is always looking for new possibilities and meanings in existing images, words, movements, and sounds. To come to acceptance and definition of the world for himself, and hopefully to communicate and express myself about it. His favorite themes are political and social dynamics, the beauty of nature, technology, and psychological/metaphysical theories.
