Gala Reya - Portrait
Gala Reya is an interdisciplinary artist based in Tbilisi. She graduated from the Institute of Cultural History and the Moscow Art Institute (Faculty of Graphics). Working across painting, spatial installation, and augmented reality, her practice explores attention as a perceptual and ethical act. Her works operate at the intersection of individual experience and collective meaning systems, engaging with the relationship between the visible and the invisible, the material and the immaterial. A central element of her visual language is the Georgian alphabet, used not as text, ornament, or marker of identity, but as an autonomous visual and rhythmic code. Fragmented and decontextualised, the letters function as traces of a pre-linguistic state of meaning, a moment before interpretation becomes fixed. In Reya’s projects, augmented reality is not employed as spectacle or interactivity, but as a subtle layer that reveals latent connections already present within the space. Her works do not aim to deliver clear messages or conclusions; instead, they create conditions for slowing down, attentive presence, and a slight shift in perception. What remains after the encounter is not knowledge, but a quiet internal trace, an experience of awareness rather than explanation.
