Belén Barbero - Portrait

Belén Barbero is a visual artist and multidisciplinary designer based in Madrid. Holding a degree in Business Administration from ICADE, NYU Stern, and the London School of Economics, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design from IED Madrid, her training supports a contemporary outlook and a deeply human sensibility.

From 2006 to 2022, she ran her own internationally recognised fashion house from her atelier in Madrid. After more than fifteen years, she chose to leave behind the garment's utilitarian function to focus on the material itself, finding in that shift the creative freedom she had long sought.

What began in 2022 as an introspective process of artistic exploration gradually evolved into a coherent and singular body of work. Her practice explores the poetics of the tactile and the dichotomy between concealing and revealing, born from an intimate search for (re)encounter through vulnerability. Her work orbits around the liquid, the translucent, and the infinitely small as thresholds toward the immeasurable. Yoga and meditation, her work with the NGO Norte Joven, and her refuge in the Portuguese Alentejo all nourish and permeate her creative process.

Since 2024, she has participated in group exhibitions at Art in Place, Madrid Design Festival, and Galería Viridian, among others. In 2025, her first solo exhibition at Galería Nueva, consolidating a sensitive voice deeply connected to her time and, above all, to the human experience.
