Anna Zhang (ANNA.Z.) | Fashion Design, Visual Art

Anna Zhang is a New York–based fashion designer, graphic designer, and visual artist. She holds a Master’s degree in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design. Zhang currently works as a Designer at DONNA KARAN New York, while pursuing an independent multidisciplinary practice. Her work, spanning fashion, moving image, and installation, has been presented during New York Fashion Week and exhibited in SoHo, New York. Zhang has received the American Good Design Award, MUSE Design Award, and French Fashion Award. She was also selected as a jury member for the French Fashion Award. Her practice explores form, material language, and emotional expression across digital and physical media.

MELTING.. originates from Anna Zhang’s personal experience of losing her grandmother and explores themes of loss and remembrance through the lens of traditional Chinese views on life, death, and funeral rituals. Central to the project is burning, a traditional ritual used to communicate with the deceased. It embodies the Chinese concept of Yin and Yang, representing the coexistence of the living and the dead in parallel yet opposing worlds. As both a cultural symbol and an emotional process, burning signifies irreversible loss and the gradual fading of memory over time. Using creative textile design, Anna translates the act of burning into a visual and material language, establishing it as the starting point of a narrative that weaves personal grief with collective cultural memory.
